Yes — walk-ins who connect to WiFi get captured by CaptiveWiFi and pushed into ResDiary as new diner profiles. You don't need a reservation in place for the sync to happen. This means your ResDiary database grows with every visit, not just every online booking.
How does CaptiveWiFi match a WiFi guest to an existing ResDiary diner?
CaptiveWiFi uses the verified email address captured at the WiFi portal to look up existing ResDiary records. If a match is found, the existing profile is updated with the new visit data and any new tags. If no match is found, a new diner profile is created with the verified details.
What tags does CaptiveWiFi apply to ResDiary diner records?
CaptiveWiFi applies tags based on each guest's WiFi visit history. A first-time WiFi guest is tagged First Visit. Guests who return are tagged Returning. Guests who connect frequently are tagged Regular. Guests who haven't visited for a defined period are tagged Lapsed. All tagging is automatic — no manual input needed.
Is this GDPR compliant?
Yes. CaptiveWiFi only pushes guest data to ResDiary where the guest has explicitly consented at the WiFi portal. Every record includes a full consent log — timestamp, the exact opt-in wording shown and the guest's IP address. Marketing data is only shared for opted-in guests.
