How it works

Three steps to WiFi-to-POS
attribution.

1
Guest connects to WiFi
Your branded CaptiveWiFi portal captures name, email and marketing consent. The guest is online in under 30 seconds.
2
Email matched to Square customer
CaptiveWiFi looks up the email in Square. Existing customers are updated with the WiFi visit. New guests get a Square customer record created automatically.
3
Attribution reported back
When that same email appears on a Square transaction, CaptiveWiFi attributes the purchase to the WiFi visit. See conversion rates, return visits and spend in one place.
Why CaptiveWiFi + Square

Know which WiFi guests
actually spent money.

Square tells you what was sold. CaptiveWiFi tells you who was in the building. Together, you get a complete picture of in-venue behaviour.

WiFi-to-purchase attribution
See which WiFi guests converted to a Square transaction. Measure the real revenue contribution of your guest WiFi — not just footfall, but actual spend.
Unified guest records in Square
WiFi guest data enriches Square customer profiles automatically. Verified email, consent status and visit history all land in Square — no manual imports needed.
Repeat visit and return rate data
Track how many WiFi guests return within 7, 30, or 90 days. See which guests become regulars and whether their Square spend increases with each visit.
FAQ

Common questions about
Square + CaptiveWiFi.

How does CaptiveWiFi match WiFi guests to Square customers?
CaptiveWiFi uses the email address captured at your WiFi portal to look up matching Square customer records via the Square API. If a match is found, the profile is updated with the WiFi visit. If no match exists, a new Square customer record is created with the verified email and consent data.
Does this work for guests who pay by cash or use a different email?
Attribution works by email match. If a guest pays with cash or uses a different email at the till, the purchase will not be linked to their WiFi session. For card payments where the email matches the Square customer record, attribution is automatic.
Is the integration GDPR compliant?
Yes. CaptiveWiFi only sends guest data to Square where the guest has explicitly consented at the WiFi portal. Every record includes a full consent timestamp and the opt-in wording displayed. A Data Processing Agreement is available on request.
