Setup

How to connect MikroTik to CaptiveWiFi

Setup typically takes under 30 minutes. CaptiveWiFi provides your RADIUS credentials and portal URL from the dashboard.

1
Enable MikroTik Hotspot
In Winbox or the RouterOS web interface, run the Hotspot Setup wizard on your guest interface. This creates the hotspot server that intercepts unauthenticated clients.
2
Set CaptiveWiFi as the login page URL
In Hotspot Server Profile, replace the default login page with your CaptiveWiFi portal URL. This redirects all unauthenticated guests to the CaptiveWiFi splash page.
3
Configure the walled garden
Add CaptiveWiFi domains to the Hotspot Walled Garden so guests can access the splash page before authenticating. CaptiveWiFi provides the list of required domains.
4
Add RADIUS server credentials
Enter the CaptiveWiFi RADIUS server IP, port, and shared secret in MikroTik's RADIUS settings. CaptiveWiFi provides these from your hardware settings page.
5
Test the guest flow
Connect a test device to the guest SSID, verify the redirect to the CaptiveWiFi splash page works, and confirm authentication completes and grants internet access.
